About
Elenna Sindler, born and raised in the Chicago area, is a student at Northwestern studying voice, composition, and gender studies.
As a performer-composer, she is committed to intersecting issues of gender-based violence in her art. In 2018, wrote and devised a performance piece for Collaboraction’s Peacebook festival, exploring how survivor’s of sexual violence navigate public transit. She is very excited to be bringing this piece to Infusion Productions in NYC this spring (2019). She also worked with Lucy Dhegrae at soundSCAPE (Cesena, Italy) and performed works by composers Jason Eckardt, Sean Jaeger, Marco Taralli, and Katherine Young. Currently, she is working on a commission from A Red Orchid Theatre to compose for their spring production of “The Killing Game,” by Eugene Ionesco.
Through the Chicago Academy for the Arts, she worked collaboratively on three 30-minute operas premiered by members of Ensemble Dal Niente, Quince, and Fonema Consort. As a high school student, she was a part of the Chicago Arts Initiative, where she premiered original compositions with the mentorship of Jesse Langen (Dal Niente) at music festivals EarTaxi, Omaha Under the Radar, at the Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Darmstadt, Germany) with Studio Musik Fabrik and at MCA Chicago with eighth blackbird. She has had the opportunity to work with opera director Joachim Schamberger and conductors Donald Nally (The Crossing), Stephen Alltop, Michael Lewanski (Dal Niente) and Matilda Hoffman (UC Davis). A versatile singer of many genres, she won a YoungArts Merit Award for Popular Voice and has performed at various venues in the Chicagoland area, such as Schubas, Wells Street Art Festival, and the Jazz Showcase, among others. She self-released a singer-songwriter album called When I Was in 2016.

Elenna Sindler AKA KONISHI, born and raised in the Chicago area, is a performer-composer of experimental classical and pop music. She is currently based in Los Angeles.
As a contemporary classical vocalist, she has sang with Present Music Ensemble, and worked with conductor David Bloom (Contemporaneous), performing works by Caroline Shaw, Andy Akiho, and Philip Glass. She has worked with Lucy Dhegrae at soundSCAPE (Cesena, Italy) and performed works by composers Jason Eckardt, Sean Jaeger, Marco Taralli, and Katherine Young. She has worked with opera director Joachim Schamberger and conductors Donald Nally (The Crossing), Stephen Alltop, Michael Lewanski (Dal Niente) and Matilda Hoffman (UC Davis). In 2019, with Chicago new music initiative Non-op, she sang on a program of all women composers, featuring Kaija Saariaho and Meredith Monk. She also had the opportunity to sing in the world premiere of Hannah Selin's "Six Narratives" with the Brooklyn Metro Chamber Orchestra. A versatile singer of many genres, she won a YoungArts Merit Award for Popular Voice and has performed at various venues in the Chicagoland area, such as Schubas, Wells Street Art Festival, and the Jazz Showcase, among others.
She has written music for multiple theater projects and films, including A Red Orchid Theatre's,"Killing Game" by Eugene Ionesco and "Do You Feel Anger?" by Mara Nelson Greenberg. In 2019, she developed a vacuum cleaner opera installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA) with absurdist director, Dado, for the Storefront Project. She then collaborated with director Jess McLeod to write music for a short film, "The Admiral" starring actor Michael Shannon. She recently contributed the score for the short film "Ride Baby Ride," which premiered at "Holly Shorts" an OSCAR qualifying festival. She most recently embarked on her first feature length film project titled "BAM!" by director Jordan Tragash. The movie is set to premiere at Wicked Queer, Boston's LGBTQ Film Festival.
A graduate of Northwestern University's Voice & Opera program, she studied with classical voice with Theresa Brancaccio, and music composition with Alex Temple.
